I'm Eric, and played p&p for a number of years, but haven't had much of a chance lately. Hoping to get into it again here and now. If you need, you can reach my on AIM at quoth the kernal.
When I've DM'd, one of my favourite parts was finding ways to pit players against each other. Not necessarily in life-or-death ways, but just to see what would happen; getting players to interact with each other and deal with their differing views/priorities was just as interesting as letting them interact with my world.
As a player, I like a nice mix of rule-driven and roleplay interactions; the rules can get in the way at times, but we have stats for a reason, no? I also enjoy thinking up interesting character builds, which is a major reason I prefer 3.5 to 4.0.
Considering this campaign: If we're looking at an orphan background, my first thought is for a wizard/rogue->arcane trickster character; I've always wanted to roll up one of them. I'm thinking NN - has had to ignore the law at times to get by, but doesn't actively subvert it; has compassion for those in bad circumstances, but limited sympathy.
Cheers, Kernal

Hello all,
My name is Channing and I played pnp a lot for about 7 or 8 years back in the days of AD&D 2nd Ed. and Star Wars Roleplaying. However, I "grew up" for a while around the time that 3.0 came out.
Most of the time I was a GM.
I also played (but didn't GM) a ton of MERPS, TMNT, Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, Space Hulk, Battletech, Mechwarrior (the RPG version of Battletech), Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Cyberpunk, and various others RPGs and tabletop games.
In role-playing, I've always been a big fan of the rule "all rules are optional as long as the GM needs it to be (within reason)".
My favourites back in 2nd Ed days were rangers and mages. I'm happy to play any sort of character. Quite literally.
My favourite race was always human, but was pretty well open to anything.
Combat is great, but with a great story, role playing is obviously just as important.
I certainly do like the idea of having the party involved in large-scale battles at some point (And Warhammer Fantasy Role-playing was great for this cause you could insert your heroes into a tabletop battle of Warhammer when this sort of thing needed to occur), but I also love a DM who manages to make smaller encounters nerve-wracking and fun with an enemy who's cleverness easily compensates for his weaknesses.
I'm quite happy starting off a low level character. It's the best way to build personality.
I use Skype and can be found as channing_guenther on skype.
I probably will need a bit of help/explanation to get me going with either 3.5 or 4.0 (whatever is decided upon) since they're new rule sets to me. I have got downloaded versions of all the core rulebooks for both sets, and I'll go through them on my own, but if someone wanted to help me roll up a character to get me started, I'd certainly appreciate it.
Oh yeah... always hated psionics.
Played lots of FR, some Planescape, some Dark Sun (The gladiator aspect was fun - if a little repetitive- and it would have been great without all those pstupid psionicists) and lots of home brew worlds.
Is there an opening for a PC to be the caretaker of the orphans or will that be an NPC?

I also have a skype account, which is the same as my AIM account name. Any word on character creation guidelines?

Hello, John. I am Ed. I am interested to play as well. I wonder if you are still in the campaign planning stage or have you started the party creation process?
I have been played D&D for a few years, having started around the time when AD&D went into decline. I think I have DMed more games than I have played, a result unfortunately not by choice.
I do believe that a character is more than a set of skills and abilities - without a core character concept to tie it all together, it's all moot. I am not particularly fussed about the sort of campaign settings, as long as it is run in a way that is immersive. So the sort of things I am looking for are:
- players having meaningful choices; - npcs with proper motivations, plans and a good schedule in the context of the campaign (e.g. if the party wastes time unnecessarily, there is no reason for the villain to delay his evil plan in order to have a climatic encounter); - the rules are not applied mechanically as to hinder the flow of the story; - encounters that encourage roleplaying, as opposed to combat, so we can avoid the "kill for exp" mentality.
I would love to hear more about the sort of campaign that you are going to run for us.
